This guitar started its life as a custom build for a local customer. We met at a local diner during lunch one day. We shared a booth, along with our work stories. He followed us back to the shop and ordered a custom build from us. Then after a year or so, he fell upon hard times financially, so we took the guitar back.
The customer did have the opportunity to order this as a custom build, and he happened to be a big fan of Johnny Cash. We had a stash of mahogany from some previous builds that was grown on Johnny Cash's property in Jamaica, and flown to Nashville via Lear Jet (in small quantities, I suppose) in 1974. This guitar is made from that wood. It turns out to be an excellent wood to make acoustic instruments from. It seems to be more dense than Genuine Honduras Mahogany, which I think puts it somewhere between mahogany and rosewood, tonally. I like to think of this as the best of two worlds.
I must mention though, this is a used instrument. It took a tumble from its guitar stand at some point, and there are a couple of chips and dings here and there. It also looks like it may have endured some cold weather at some point in time, as there are a number of hairline cracks in the lacquer. Nothing structural, they just appear to be something we call "cold-checking". Most of these small "checks" are on the top. None on on the sides, and maybe one or two on the back.
So, there is the background on this guitar. Due to the fact that it is not new, and has the above blemishes, we are offering it at a price far below what it was originally purchased at. This guitar does include its original top quality Guardian hard shell case, complete with a few stickers applied by the original owner. It appears that they could easily be removed, should the next owner want to do so.
